Braid Developer Comes Down On Farmville (XML Pro News)

Developers who are surprised and disgusted by the success of games like Farmville can enjoy a recent interview with braid developer Jonathan Blow.  During, Blow clearly he approves of the games of this nature.

Blow said Simon Parkin of Gamasutra, "it is only to exploit the players and Yes, fun with this type of game.... report people"  But then when we look at the process of design in this game, it is not on the design of a fun game.  It is not on the design of something that is going to be interesting or a positive experience in any way - it is actually on the design of something that is a negative experience.

Blow, and then continued, "is on 'How do us something like cute and the positivity of projects' - but it makes people worry about when they are away from the computer actually and discharges the attention of their daily lives and back in the game."  What previous kinds of game ever made.  And it is, "How do we get players operate their friends in a mechanical way to progress."  That or exploit their friends, they type transform us and then we can monetize their relationships.

There you have it: the developer view respected on the subject, quite clear that what in fact is not the most noble how game design approach.

Or, if you feel like the path (although we encourage it), you can refer to the Blow as a sort of put-UN plan for the design of a game like Farmville comments.
